Revived Music

Monday, 21th April 2014, 6pm
Vilnius St. Catherine Church (Vilniaus st. 30)

Vilnius municipality choir "Jauna Muzika" will hold a concert on the second day of the Easter 18:00 in St. Catherine‘s church, where for the first time in Lithuania pieces for choir, soloist and orchestra, of Jan Dismas Zelenka (1679 – 1745), also known as "catholic Bach" or "czech Vivaldi", and  of armenian – american composer Alan Hovhaness (1911 - 2000) will be performed.
Music of Jan D. Zelenka "rested" in archives for 200 years! Not a single image of  the composer reached our times: the only portrait left is his music. More than 500 pieces of music belong to the pen of one of the most productive composers of 20th century – Alan Hovaness. It is an awkward fact, that not a single of his heroic and monumental as well as simple and inspiring compositions haven‘t been performed in Lithuania.
The initiator of the program, conductor Laurynas Vakaris Lopas chose Jan D. Zelenka‘s work "Haec Dies" for choir and orchestra, and "Te Deum" for soloists, chorus and orchestra, as well as A. Hovaness‘ "Alleluja and Fugue" for orchestra, as a first meeting with composers still undiscovered in Lithuania.
