Vilnius Municipal Choir
Workshops of invited conductors In 1995 "Jauna Muzika" started organising
constant professional skills improving courses for Lithuanian choir conductors
with participation of foreign conductors as teachers. Lithuania has old
and rich choral singing traditions, however, today when the country is
experiencing economical difficulties young choir conductors and students
cannot afford attending international choir conducting courses or seminars
abroad. This is how the idea of such courses started. The project would
include the following participants: teaching conductor, Lithuanian Music
Academy student's choir, "Jauna Muzika" choir, 4-5 active trainees - the
most talented Lithuanian Music Academy students (all willing could attend
as passive observers). The teaching conductor proposes the repertoire and
after 4-5 days of rehearsals with the choirs two-part concerts are planned.
In the first part the trainees would conduct the Lithuanian Music Academy
choir performing the pieces they have learned during the workshop while
in the second part the "Jauna Muzika" choir would be conducted by teaching
conductor. The performance would be held in National Philharmonics.
We had 12 workshops already, under conduction
of:
Mr. Frieder Bernius (Germany), March 3-10, 1995
All of us are absolutely convinced of the
positive effect of such courses. They gave opportunity to deepen one's
knowledge and experience, allowed Lithuanian conductors to get acquainted
with modern tendencies in choral art, to improve professional skills of
most talented Lithuanian conductors.
